Our bodies respond to their environment. The world we now live in is largely sedentary compared to even 50 years ago. We are surrounded by an abundance of food and even worse “rubbish foods and beverages”. Couple that up with little movement and we have a recipe for disaster.
Assuming that we are going to live “healthily” and “independently” into our 80’s and 90’s will become a thing of the past for many. There is already evidence that our longevity expectation has begun to “fall” for the first time in history! Now that is scary!
Burying our heads in the sand, eating rubbish foods and ignoring good quality exercise is an open invitation for ill health and premature loss of independence. Such a shame when we live in a lucky country!
If you are managing to keep up your regular exercise, and keeping within 5kgs of your optimal weight consistently, generally speaking… Well done!…. you are not at risk. However for so many people these days there seems to be something continually in the way of keeping up anything that resembles good quality exercise and great nutritious eating.
Which category do you fall in to?
1. QUALITY EXERCISE REGULARLY ALL YEAR ROUND PLUS 90% NUTRITIOUS EATS
2. SOME “EXERCISE” INTERMITTENTLY PLUS 50% GOOD EATING
3. NO PURPOSELY DRIVEN EXERCISE PLUS HAPHAZARD CONVENIENT EATING
The exact breakdown in % would be interesting, but I would be very confident that at least 60% of Australia’s adult population would fall into the third category, and about 20% to each of the first two categories. Bottom line is that category “one” is the only category that is truly proactive and going to give you a good chance of maintaining optimal health.
